History

A Father’s Love Personal Development and Community Services derived from the pain of its Founder, Mr. Maurice L. Williams. Growing up in the projects without his father made him angry and defiant. He started a gang with his friends and eventually became a street punk who would commit multiple juvenile and adolescent offenses until inevitably being sentenced to several years in prison. While incarcerated Maurice remedied his thoughts, taught himself to read, write, and articulate, eventually obtaining his GED. As a result of becoming proficient in literacy he became a tutor for other inmates. During his prison term he discovered one of his many gifts and abilities. He found that his ability to express himself through written form was far greater than he realized. Upon his release Maurice enrolled in college and went on to receive his masters degree in communication, with Summa Cum Laude honors.

Today Mr. Williams is a seasoned college lecturer who teaches communication courses which include: Public Speaking, Writing & Reporting News, Advanced Topics in Media Studies, Propaganda & Persuasion, Relationship Building, and Oral Communication.

His passion for song writing developed into spitting rhymes with his friends and “Moe Slinga” was born. Moe Slinga gained local notoriety in the underground hip-hop community after releasing multiple mixtapes. He served as an opening act for some of today’s hottest celebrities, including 50 Cent. Moe Slinga has been featured on WABC Channel 7 News, and in National Geographic Magazine.

As a teenage father with an only child who was born while he was incarcerated, the two had difficulty bonding after his release. To help quell the anguish of not having his own father’s love as a child, and not being able to connect with his daughter, he channeled those negative energies into something positive. He wrote and produced a short film series appropriately titled “A Father’s Love”. His first film was nominated for an award at HBO’s American Black Film Festival. In a recent fashion show at Harlem’s world famous Rucker Park, he introduced his urban clothing line befittingly named “A Father’s Love”. His brand’s flashy styles and colors have become increasingly popular among fathers across the country.

Maurice has been an advocate and father figure to children of his community for over a decade. He started A Father’s Love Personal Development Institute to help young people tap into their God given talents and expose them to resources that were not available to him growing up. Mr. Williams’ commitment to this population proves that he is dedicated to rendering quality services to those who are facing some of the same challenges he encountered as a youngster. The effectiveness of his work is evidenced by testimonials of participants and their parents/caregivers.

Mr. Williams has spoken in public schools and colleges across the country. His expertise include matters concerning the school to prison pipeline, juvenile recidivism, the importance of positive male guidance, and other topics relevant to the development of youth and young adults.

Maurice is currently pursuing his second masters degree, at Columbia University’s School of Social Work.
